2018 Workhorse Shiraz

  • Crimson red colour, bright red-cherry, blood plums and spice aromas are surrounded by hints of violet and thyme. The palate is full, soft and rounded with a lovely silky texture finishing with excellent freshness. A modern style Shiraz with life and energy which will mature well for a further 10 years.

    Vineyard Information:
A blend of two distinct Shiraz vineyards, each located in contrasting sub-regions of McLaren Vale. The Branson Road ‘Home Block’ vineyard located just off the coastline in Aldinga and the Wait Family vineyard on the top of the Seaview Rise in McLaren Vale. Both vineyards are sustainably managed to produce low yields and concentrated fruit.

    Winemaking Notes:
The Shiraz was hand-picked at optimum ripeness, sorted and then 90% destemmed with 10% whole bunch clusters. The fruit was allowed to cold soak in the open-topped fermenter for 5 days at 10oC before warming naturally to start fermentation. Hand plunged for 15 days before being pressed off straight to oak hogshead barrels for maturation on yeast and malo lees. A combination of new French oak (30%) and seasoned oak barrels were used to mature the wine for 12 months prior to being blended and bottled. No finings and minimal filtration were used in the winemaking and bottling process.
